i have loaded both a std RGB digital camera image (24-bit) and the dog example ("before.gif")
then duplicated the base image to create a layer (obj-1) but get this error:

!data input error!
file is wrong format . possibly missing layers.
program requires RGBA image (24-bit + transpaerncy)

what else do i need to do to do? any suggestions? dunno what the A is in RGBA... as for transparency, dunno about it either, other than i can change it on the obj-1 layer...

thanks

Unfortunately the Background Remover does not work under Ulead PhotoImpact.а
Adobe Photoshop (just as Corel PaintShopPro) layer has image data (RGB or other color representation), opacity (transparence) and masks.
It seems to us that Ulead PhotoImpact layer has image data and mask only and has no opacity.
All transparency-linked properties (blending etc) are implemented using masks.
Now we do not process masks.а I hope we correct this bug in future versions.

We are very appreciated to you for problem you met with Ulead PhotoImpact.

Background Remover is a Photoshop-compatible plug-in for Windows designed by ImageSkill Sofware that can work with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements,Corel Paint Shop Pro, Ulead PhotoImpact, Macromedia Fireworks etc. The main purpose of the Background Remover is to extract some part of an image i.e. Уthe objectФ and remove part that which is unwanted, i.e. Уthe backgroundФ. It is capable of determining areas of pixels to be modified, areas of pixels to be partly modified and areas of pixels to remain unmodified. The partly modification means the restoration of the non-distinct edges of objects. It is done by reinstating their partly transparent nature and also by subtracting the background color so that only the object color is left in these partly transparent regions. This ensures that the cut-out object will blend or composite correctly with a different background. The cutting objects may be used for collage, scrap-book and greeting card creation.

do you know when the new verison is out?

Yes, it is our bug. I hope new version will released in next month. The many masking programm (Corel KnockOut etc) do
not work under Ulead too. The Ulead PhotoImpact does not support Adobe layer's properties at all.
There are some difficulties with debugging applictions under Ulead hosting. But I believe that we can find solution.

I used to use Adobe's Photo Shop, but in recent years have opted for simpler raster image programs such as Jasc's Paint Shop Pro.  Also use Xara's new Extreme, and the Gimp.
My problem in getting started with Background seems to be true of others.  If I want to work on a .jpg saved by my digital camera, how can I get it converted to RGBa?  Adding another layer doesn't seem to work.
I consistently get the error - Image has wrong format. Possibly missing layers.
Program requires RGBA image. (24-bit + transparency)
Any help will be most appreciated - I'll purchase Background Remover just as soon as I can get it to work.

Hello,

You can see a short Background Remover work scenario to http://forum.imageskill.com/index.php?topic=10.0

In brief (If you work with Adobe Photoshop):

1. Open the"JPG"  image. So, it has УbackgroundФ name in Layer palette (you can see it by pressing F7 or use command УWindow->LayerФ. It means that image does not have transparency property (so-called УAlpha channelФ)

2. In order to use Background Remover we must add УAlpha channelФ in image data - create layer from flat image. We can do it using УLayer->New->Layer from BackgroundФ command.

3. DO NOT USE УLayer->Duplicate LayerФ or УLayer->New->Layer via copyФ commands.

If you make it, you receive 2 identical images (1 background Ц your source image, second Ц duplicated layer (your image + alpha channel), so after processing (when you press OK button, you do not see result, because you will see the source image through processed layer).

You can control your data in УLayerФ palette (hot key- F7)

4. Run Background Remover using УFilter->ImageSkill->Background RemoveФ command

Recently, we have written new Background Remover tutorial: Background Remover: Object extraction? It is very easy!

Regards, Dmitry
