Paid $50 and it's It's not much easier than Photoshop's background tools. I've got a bunch of photos with what are all tough shaded gradient backgrounds. Help me out with the "TOOLS" if you would.

Of course the problem may be ME. I hope it is!

The "defringe tool" as far as I can tell is just an ERASER? That's all it does for me....ERASE. Do you have to "precisely" outline the object with the eraser tool to make this work. In your examples it looks like you're just covering the areas with the tool.

And how exactly do you UNMIX COLORS? You mention it in your instructions but there's no mention of this in the program at all. How do you select the area for color UNMIXING?

A few example images are attached. How well can you program actually remove backgrounds like these? They look like they would be easy but it is not.

Hello Joe,

Background Remover is dedicated for processing images with complex background.
Of course, it can process images with simple one color matte or gradient background.

Open an image, create a layer and run Background Remover.

Mark background and object colors using marking tools (you can switch between marking object and background by pressing Ctrl button).

If your image has complex texture background check УTextured BackgroundФ flag.
Press УApplyФ, if background is not removed completely increase УStrengthФ parameter and press УApplyФ again.
In some cases you have to drop all marks using УDelete all marksФ tool and make a few additions marking stroke in hard places.

You can check result using one of colored matted background in the УViewФ section. Usually I use УCyan MatteФ, because all defects are more visible on this color.

If your result has small colored border around maskТs bounds or your object has semi-transparent areas (like hair, fur etc) you can use УDefringe toolФ. This tool marks area where Уcolor unmixingФ procedure will be applied. It means that in these areas Background Remover will УestimatesФ background and then УsubtractsФ estimated color from original with regard to calculated objectТs opacity. So, УDefringe toolФ is not simple erasing tool.

I try to illustrated Background Remover work on your examples.

I run Background Remover, mark object and background colors.

Pressing Apply I received the following result ( I used УCyan MatteФ background for defects checkingФ).

I used the УdefaultФ settings except checked УFill holesФ flag.

The result is good except areas around shoes.
I can use simple УManual EraserФ or УDefringe zoneФ tool.

I used the УdefaultФ settings except checked УFill holesФ flag.

Pressing Apply I received good extracted object.

Thanks Dmitry

Since making my post I have worked more with the program and it does do an acceptable job. It does not do a perfect job but I don't think anything would do a perfect job on jpegs. It will work on most of my images since my images are for use on the web. I am using WHITE backgrounds which actually shows bad areas more than the turquoise background. My results are actually better than the samples you did for me.

I find the opposite to be true on backgrounds. Simple backgrounds and gradient backgrounds remove pretty well. The complex backgrounds I find very difficult to remove.

Here's a simple backgorund I removed. It came out very good and I do not find it necessary to mark anything but the background to remove this type of background. The complex image at the bottom however would be just about as easy to clip it out. There's just too much damage using the background remover. But, maybe with practice I would be able to do better.

I prepare some "product" photos (like tumblers and mugs) I take myself that have to be print quality. I will need something more powerful to do those to get sharp edges (maybe Mask Pro Plug In) or I will simply have to keep clipping them out. Your program is good for many web photos.
