Manual Eraser Crashes PSP

Sorry for "dominating" the forum today but just when things were just starting to work nicely (I'm learning), I started running into a problem.
I'm running PSP X2.01 with XP SP3 and 2G Ram.

Loaded an image into PSP, promoted background, and loaded BR. After selecting object and background with red and green making, I clicked Magic Wand to cut out the image. Defringe tool separated hair from the background and used Refine Mask to smooth the edges. So far, all was working nicely.

I selected Manual Eraser to clean up some ragged edges and worked in several areas around the cutout image. After each of the portions were erased, it would take longer for the processing to complete. Also, the circle representing the eraser would flicker on and off. After erasing several areas of the image, the screen froze and turned white. Then, a message appeared stating that an error occurred and PSP had to close. It closed losing all the work which had been done.

I reopened PSP and again went through the same process all over again. But as I worked with the Eraser the same thing occurred again.
