Hello
All,
Corel (JASC) Paint Shop Pro (
http://www.corel.com) is one of most popular graphic editor.
This is very good functionality and at the same time cheap.
Paint Shop Pro has very good interface and wide range of effects and tools (although when Corel acquired JASC Software a quantity of new features decreases from version to version).
Just now the current version is Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate. The
ImageSkill Background Remover (
http://www.imageskill.com/backgroundremover/backgroundremover.html) belongs to this version as third-party bonus.
Our installers detect most of Paint Shop Pro Photo version and you simple choose desirable item from detected graphic hosts list.
PSP supports multiple plugin?s path and user can make its enabled and disabled, so installer can detect wrong plugin path, but in any case you can attach any Adobe-compatible plugin to PSP.
Default plugin path (for Corel PSP X and above) for International version is ?
Path\to\Corel\PSP\Languages\IE\PlugIns" folder, where ?
Path\to\Corel\PSP? is path to Corel PSP installation folder.
Default path differs from different languages:
International version: IE\PlugIns
English: EN\PlugIns
Spanish: ES\Complementos
Dutch: NL\Insteekfilters
Italian: IT\Plug-in
France: FR\PlugIns
German: DE\Plugins
and hieroglyph path name for Chinese and Japanese languages.
So, if you switched from languages and your plugins were installed to default folder, you lost all plugins in ?
Effects? menu.
In order to attach Adobe-compatible plugin to PSP you have to:
(All commands and menu items are valid for JASC PaintShopPro7,8,9, Corel PaintShopPro X, X1, PaintShopPro Photo X2, X2 Ultimate).
1. Setup plugin to any suitable for you folder. The
Tile Builder (
http://www.imageskill.com/tilebuilder/tilebuilder.html) has default path
C:\Program Files\ImageSkill\Tile Builder2. Run Corel (JASC) PSP.
Using "
File->Preferences->File Location" command add plugin path.
3. Choose "
Plug-ins" item on left list and press "
Add" button.
4. Choose "
C:\Program Files\ImageSkill" folder and press "
OK".
5. You can find plugins at "
Effects->Plugins" menu
IMPORTANT: In order to run Background Remover (or other plugin for masking) current image must be RGB (not palette image) and has layer (you can create it using "
Layers->Promote Background Layer" command).
Using this command you add to image additional channel for transparency (so-called Alpha channel).
You can control background/layer property using ?
Layers? palette (?
View->Palettes->Layers? or short key F8 ).
| |
Image is ?Background? - no layer data | Image is ?Layer? ? there is a 4-th channel for transparency (RGB+ Alpha channel) |
CONCLUSION:Corel (JASC) Paint Shop Pro is very good editor with some merits and demerits.
Merits - Can support a few plugin?s folder and can attach theirs without re-running PSP.
Demerits- Does not allow run plugins in 16-bit on channel mode.
- Does not transfer to plugins color management data (color space, profiles etc), so if plugin uses CMS (color management system) such plugin could not works under PSP correctly.
- Supports 8bf format only (only Filters, not Selection, Import or Export type)
- Uses different folder?s names for different languages, so if you switch between languages you must use non-default folder for plugin store.
Regards,
